God Loved Us First

When people feel lonely and unsure of themselves, it is often because they do not believe deeply enough that God fully understands them. Paul writes that if we love fully, we will understand as we are fully understood. John’s words are very important, too: God loved us before we were ever able to love him. This is what must enter our small hearts, and what we must hold on to: the love of the great Heart which understands us fully. ~J. Heinrich Arnold, Disicpleship

Trust, Not Certainty

“When we get our spiritual houses in order, we’ll be dead. This goes on. You arrive at enough certainty to be able to make your way, but it is making it in darkness. Don’t expect faith to clear things up for you. It is trust, not certainty.” ~Flannery O’Connor, The Habit of Being

August 15: Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Father in heaven, all creation rightly gives you praise, for all life and all holiness come from you. In the plan of your wisdom she who bore the Christ in her womb was raised body and soul in glory to be with him in heaven. May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness and join in her hymn of endless love and praise. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

August 14: St. Maximilian Kolbe

“Be a Catholic: When you kneel before an altar, do it in such a way that others may be able to recognize that you know before whom you kneel.” ~St. Maximilian Kolbe
St. Maximilian, pray for us.

August 12: St. Frances de Chantal

“Must you continue to be your own cross? No matter which way God leads you, you change everything into bitterness by constantly brooding over everything. For the love of God, replace all this self-scrutiny with a pure and simple glance at God’s goodness.” St. Frances de Chantal

St. Frances, pray for us.

Anniversary of Final Profession

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the Final Profession of Vows as a diocesan hermit by our friend Br. Rex.

Heavenly Father, we pray for those consecrated to God by the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience that they may seek to live their baptismal promises more intensely and have the grace to persevere in their commitment to the Lord and serve with open hearts and willing spirits. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

August 11: Feast of St. Clare of Assisi

“Love God, serve God, everything is in that.” ~St Clare
God of mercy, you inspired Saint Clare with the love of poverty. By the help of her prayers may we follow Christ in poverty of spirit and come to the joyful vision of your glory in the kingdom of heaven. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen
St. Clare, pray for us.

August 10: St Lawrence, Deacon & Martyr

Saint Lawrence pray for us, that the flames of divine love may burn away all traces of vice within us, and that we may be practical and zealous in the service of the poor. Amen

Aug 9: St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross

“Let go of your plans. The first hour of your morning belongs to God. Tackle the day’s work that he charges you with, and he will give you the power to accomplish it.” ~St. Teresa Benedicta

August 8: Feast of St. Dominic

“A man who governs his passions is a master of his world. We must either command them or be enslaved by them. It is better to be a hammer that an anvil.” ~St. Dominic

St. Dominic, pray for us.
