God of Light and Glory

O God of light and glory, you are the beauty we seek, the power to whom we entrust ourselves, the love for whom we hunger and thirst. Make yourself known to all people through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Run With Delight

Lord Jesus Christ, you have brought us safely to this new day, as you have promised to bring us safely to dwell with you one day in your kingdom of light. Defend us against all that would weigh us down and slow our steps, so that we may run with delight in the way of your Gospel, who live and reign with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen

Fundraising Campaign Continues

Thanks to the generous support of friends, we have exceeded our initial fundraising goal of $100,000. Praise God! We, the Friends of Little Portion Hermitage are thankful to God for His providential care poured out upon our endeavor through you, our benefactors.

However, factors unforeseen when our fundraising campaign began have increased the cost of property throughout Maine by nearly 25% as of this writing. Therefore it has become necessary to continue our fundraising campaign in hopes of raising another $50,000.

It is the goal of the Friends of the Little Portion Hermitage to purchase a property somewhere in the Diocese of Portland, Maine, to establish and maintain a small hermitage, and to support the life of the hermit who resides in the hermitage.

Go to the GoFundMe Campaign

The two-fold purpose of our fundraising remains the same: First, to purchase property somewhere in the State of Maine where we will establish, maintain and provide ongoing support for a small hermitage so that our friend Br. Rex Anthony Norris and those who, please God, follow after him can continue to bear witness to the consecrated contemplative life of a diocesan hermit. Second, it is our hope that we will be able to build a second “retreat” hermitage on the same property to provide a place of retreat for anyone in need of a brief respite in the silence of solitude away from the demands of active ministry.

In addition to the GoFundMe link above, you will note elsewhere on this site a PayPal link. Please prayerfully consider supporting consecrated contemplative life in the Church as it is expressed by the vocation of the diocesan hermit, a vocation lived for the glory of God, the good of the Church and the salvation of souls.

Thank you and may God bless you!

Saint Augustine of Hippo

O God of wisdom and of love, you inflamed Saint Augustine with the love of Christ, who is your wisdom and your power. Through his intercession, pour out into your Church anew each day the burning fire of the Holy Spirit, to inflame all hearts with love for your beauty and your truth. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen

Saint Monica

O God of all kindness, strength of those who weep, you gathered up with love Saint Monica’s tears for the conversion of her son Augustine; through the power of their prayer, grant to us all the grace to know how to weep for our sins, to seek out those who stray with our prayers, and to come before you as one in the kingdom won for us by your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen

Giver of All Good Gifts

O God and giver of all good gifts, you cleanse us from stain of sin and make us pure of heart through your Son Jesus Christ. Lead us to dwell with you in holiness in our everyday lives through constant growth in love for you and for all those whose lives we touch, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen

In Our Foolishness

O God of justice and of love, you care for your people in every time and place, despite our tendency to stray from you in our foolishness. Keep us in your care from morning until evening, that we may come to rest safely in the shadow of your all-powerful wings. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen

Saint Bartholomew

Almighty and everlasting God, who gave to your apostle Bartholomew grace truly to believe and to preach your Word: Grant that your Church may love what he believed and preach what he taught; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen

Christ the Gardener

O Lord our God, you have replanted on our earth the garden lost in Eden, and you have sent a new Gardener to till the soil plowed by the wood of the cross. He who is both the farmer and the seed has watered the earth with his life’s blood, shed for our redemption. Make us grow in his likeness by the power of his word dwelling in our hearts. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen

21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

God of love, you sent us your only Son as the gift of life. Reawaken in us the gifts of faith, hope, and love, that we may bear faithful witness to the truth of the Gospel and the power of your Word, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen
