Fundraising Campaign Underway

It is the goal of the Friends of the Little Portion Hermitage to purchase a property somewhere in the Diocese of Portland, Maine, to establish and maintain a small hermitage, and to support the life of the hermit who resides in the hermitage. The properties that we are looking at are in the $100,000 range and so we have started a new GoFundMe campaign to help us raise the final $37,000 that would allow us to establish the hermitage.

It is also our hope to build a second small hermitage on the same property to be used as a retreat for anyone in need of a brief respite from the demands of ministry, most especially priests and consecrated religious.

Your support in raising funds for Little Portion Hermitage will continue to foster the eremitic vocation in the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Portland. The hermit’s life is devoted to the praise of God and salvation of the world, achieved through stricter separation from the world, the silence of solitude, and assiduous prayer and penance. It is a particular call to “find in the desert, in the thick of the spiritual battle, the glory of the Crucified One” (CCC 921).
