There Be Dragons

“Fairy tales do not tell children the dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed.” ~G. K. Chesterton

Intimate Communication with God

The privacy of the chamber and the shut door are not mere precautions against vainglory in one seeking God’s face in prayer, but a necessary tranquility for him to hear the answering voice. This is a fundamental reason of the quest of solitude; absence of worry, silence, a certain leisure even, are indispensable in greater or lesser degree for intimate communication with God. ~Peter F. Anson, The Quest of Solitude, Introduction, pg xviii

Christ the Hermit

Jesus often draws apart to pray in solitude, on a mountain, preferably at night. He includes all men in his prayer, for he has taken on humanity in his incarnation, and he offers them to the Father when he offers himself. Jesus, the Word who has become flesh, shares by his human prayer in all that “his brethren” experience; he sympathizes with their weaknesses in order to free them. It was for this that the Father sent him. His words and works are the visible manifestation of his prayer in secret. ~Catechism of the Catholic Church, #2602

God’s glory cannot be diminished

“A man can no more diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, ‘darkness’ on the walls of his cell.” ~ C. S. Lewis

All creation sings God’s praise

“In calling to mind the figure of Saint Francis of Assisi, we come to realize that a healthy relationship with creation is one dimension of overall personal conversion, which entails the recognition of our errors, sins, faults and failures, and leads to heartfelt repentance and desire to change. The Australian bishops spoke of the importance of such conversion for achieving reconciliation with creation: “To achieve such reconciliation, we must examine our lives and acknowledge the ways in which we have harmed God’s creation through our actions and our failure to act. We need to experience a conversion, or change of heart” ~Pope Francis, Laudato Si (Praise be to you – On Care For Our Common Home), Paragraph 218
