Sentinels of the Morning

“It is not easy for the world, or at least that large part of it dominated by the mindset of power, wealth and consumerism, to understand your particular vocation and your hidden mission; and yet it needs them immensely. The world needs you every bit as much as a sailor on the high seas needs a beacon to guide him to a safe haven. Be beacons to those near to you and, above all, to those far away. Be torches to guide men and women along their journey through the dark night of time. Be sentinels of the morning (cf. Is 21:11-12), heralding the dawn (cf. Lk 1:78).

Pax et Bonum! I have seen many women including myself and there are probably men the same, who have a vocation to religious life and yet with the divisions and corruption in the Orders and communities, unfortunately it is not really what God is calling one to. I see this as a time when men and women may be called, but will have to also discern how to live out their calling alone or with one or two others – in a more simplified way. Thanks be to God we have Rules of Life that can be followed on our own with the supervision perhaps of good spiritual directors who have seen the many changes take place over the years. The era we are in has not been easy for one called to live their life giving all up to follow more closely, however we have our Blesseds and Saints to look to for how to live the day to day struggle, trying to keep the world out but at the same time praying fervently for it! God bless, Margaret+

Gordon Bok has composed a lovely song called “Turning toward the Morning.” It has an appealing refrain, “for the world is always turning toward the morning.” The use of always suggests an absolute, that which is an objective reality. . Our world created by God is made to to bring us to God. It is ruled by Satan, at least the part that is temporal, but it is more or less indistinguishable from the eternal world that is our destination. the song is easy to sing too.
